CINCINNATI, Ohio - Midway earned the second first-place team finish in the history of the men's indoor track and field program Saturday, snagging two wins and 11 top-five finishes at the Mount Saint Joseph Alumni Open in Cincinnati.
The Eagles finished with 109 points, six more than Wilmington (Ohio) and eight more than Mount Saint Joseph. It was the program's first win since a first-place showing at the Ohio Christian Trailblazer Invitational on Feb. 6, 2021.
For the third time this season, Midway got a victory from
Carson Milner in a distance event. This time Milner,
a two-time recipient of the River States Conference
Runner of the Week Award this season, won the 3,000-meter run in 8:41.60.
Milner was part of two second-place relays as well, teaming with
Connor Byrd,
Steven Meyer and
Noah Hampton in the 4x800 (12:15.07) and the 4,000 distance medley (12:15.07)
He was joined in victory on the field side by
Brayden Carson, who took first in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters. Carson was joined near the top by teammate
Harry Van Why IV, who finished third at 1.85.
The Eagles had two of the top-three finishes in triple jump as well, with
Ben Jones getting second at 12.21 and
Latavian Hamilton third at 12.15.
In the 4x400 relay, the team of
Gregory Anderson,
Javari Burnett, Carson and Hamilton were fourth in 3:47.94.
Van Why also got a fourth-place finish in the long jump (6.01), with
Finley Mayoh (52.36 seconds) and
Cole Sexton (14.35 meters) getting fifth in the 400-meter run and weight throw respectively.
Others to place in the top-eight were Hamilton in long jump (seventh, 5.92), Mayoh in the one-mile run (seventh, 4:41.32),
Kyan Lydian in shot put (seventh, 12.26), Anderson in the 200 (eighth, 23.77) and Carson in long jump (eighth, 5.79).
Midway concludes the regular season at the Centre Indoor Invitational in Danville, Ky. next Friday and Saturday. The River States Conference Indoor Championships will be held the following week.
