MIDWAY, Ky. - A dominant week on the field produced a dominant showing in Midwest Sprint Football League Player of the Week voting for Midway.
Quarterback
Christian Carter was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week while defensive back
Preston Moore and kickerÂ
Kadin Fitch respectively won Defensive and Special Teams honors.
Carter threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns
in a 59-22 win at Quincy on Saturday. The 59 points and five touchdown passes were both Midway single-game records.
He shared the honor with Bellarmine running back Brenden Reid, who had 200 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-7 win over Oakland City.
With 1,509 yards and 17 touchdown passes, Carter is well on his way to breaking the MSFL's single-season record in both categories. The current record holder in both categories is Bellarmine's Kyle Horvath, who threw for 1,929 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.
This marks the third time an Eagle player has won the Offensive Player of the Week award. Carter
also won it in week two, while
Chase Williams got the honor
in week three.
Moore finished with four tackles while intercepting two passes for 30 return yards. He led a secondary that tied a single-game record with four interceptions, as Midway ended the week leading the MSFL in both interceptions (12) and fumble recoveries (11).
This is the second weekly award for Moore, who was named
Special Teams Player of the Week as Midway's punter in week two of last season. Moore's lone punt Saturday traveled 50 yards.
He's the second Eagle to win Defensive Player of the Week this season, with
Tristian Euell winning in week two.
Moore was previously the only Eagle to win Special Teams Player of the Week, but is now joined by Fitch.
After having his first extra-point try blocked on Saturday, Fitch responded by making his next four while also hitting field goals from 36 and 33 yards out.
The 3-2 Eagles, who've already cliched a spot in the MSFL playoffs, will host Oakland City in their homecoming game on Saturday, which will kick off at 7 p.m.
