MIDWAY, Ky. - Another record-setting performance has led to another Midwest Sprint Football League Offensive Player of the Week award for Midway.
This week's recipient is sophomore wide receiver
Chase Williams, who recorded 136 yards on four catches and three touchdowns
in a 41-12 win over Qunicy (Ill.) on Saturday.
Williams set single-game Midway records for receiving yards and touchdowns and had the longest offensive play in school history, an 89-yard catch and run in the second quarter.
Williams also completed a 37-yard pass on a trick play in the second quarter and would have easily eclipsed 200 yards on the day, had his 84-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter not been nullified by a penalty.
In three games this season, Williams has nine receptions for 207 yards and a single-season program record four touchdown catches.
As a team, Midway set single-game records with 581 yards from scrimmage and 369 passing yards, while running back
Demari Edelen also gained a school-record 178 yards on the ground.
The Eagles have won the MSFL Offensive Player of the Week award two weeks in a row, with quarterback
Christian Carter nabbing the honor
in week two.Â
At 2-1, Midway is first in the league in total offense (521 yards per-game) and passing offense (350.3).
Carter has already broken single-season program records for passing yards (905) and touchdowns (11), with Williams,
Ayden Bauwens (290) and
Quincy Barber (260) all well on their way to breaking the previous record for receiving yards (319).
The Eagles face a stiff challenge this Saturday, as they will take on unbeaten MSFL Black Division opponent Saint Mary of the Woods on the road at 3 p.m.Â
Midway is attempting to avenge
a 52-36 loss to the Pomeroys in week one.
