DANIELS, W.V. - In first place entering the day, early struggles and improvements by other teams were too much to overcome as Midway's five-year run atop the River States Conference Fall Preview standings ended on Tuesday.
Ahead by two strokes after Monday's opening day, the Eagles dropped to third with a two-day, 75-over par score of 651. Starting Tuesday in third place, Saint Mary of the Woods shot to the top with a 637 (+61), seven shots ahead of Indiana East in second.
Midway actually improved its final score by three strokes, shooting a 324 Tuesday following a 327 Monday. But it wasn't enough to hold off Saint Mary of the Woods and IU East, who improved by 25 and 14 shots respectively.
Not helping the Eagles was a sluggish front nine, in which their players had bogeys or worse on 29 holes while recording just one birdie.
The highlight of the tournament came from sophomore
Kasey Cameron, who was one shot shy of repeating
as tournament medalist.Â
The 2025 River States Golfer of the Year had a two-day, eight-over par score of 152, landing in second place just one stroke behind Emma Rowland of Indiana Southeast.
After carding a 75 on Monday, Cameron struggled on the front nine Tuesday before recovering nicely on the back, where her one-under 35 tied for the best score any player recorded in the round.
Four other Midway players finished in the top-20.
Anna New was in 16th with a 166 (+22). New was one shot and one position ahead of teammate
Anna Simpson, who competed as an individual, and two shots better than
Savannah Salchli and
Kelsay Collins, who were part of a five-way tie for 20th.
Elsewhere,
Kyrie Dickenson and individual competitor
Cameron Allen tied for 29th with a 33-over par score of 177.
Midway will end the fall portion of its scheduled next Monday and Tuesday when it travels to Richmond, Ky. for Gibson Bay Match Play, hosted by Lindsey Wilson.
