MARIETTA, Ohio - Midway held strong in fifth place on the second and final day of the River States Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing with 21 all-conference honorees.
The Eagles recorded 81 points, just behind Indiana East (89) in fourth and well ahead of St. Mary of the Woods (31) in sixth. Rio Grande won going away with 313 while Shawnee State was second with 122.
Fourteen athletes finished in the top-eight Saturday, with multiple Eagles placing in triple jump and high jump.
Ben Jones and
Harry Van Why IV were second and third in triple, Jones jumping 13.09 meters, Van Why 12.83.
Van Why was one of three to place all-conference in high jump.
Brayden Carson was third at a school-record height of 1.91, Van Why sixth at 1.88 and
Karl Livingston eighth at 1.78.
Former 60-meter conference champion
Abdul Salaah was All-RSC again in the 55 on Saturday, finishing third in 6.53 seconds. Salaah was just .08 seconds behind the winner, Tristan Thomas of Indiana East.
Fifth-place finishers were
Carson Milner in the one-mile (4:26.19),
Tyler Withers in the 200 (23.32) and
Josiah Kocis in the 3,000 (8:47.62).
In the 4x400 relay,
Elie Mugisha, Salaah,
Gregory Anderson and
Bowen Workman were sixth in 3:41.51.
Corey Banks (55 hurdles, 8.62 seconds) and
Steven Meyer (800, 2:05.68) earned seventh-place showings while
Cole Sexton (weight throw, 14.37) an Mugisha (400, 52.68) came in eighth.
Mugisha was also Midway selection to the River States Conference Champions of Character Team.
