Hunter Wethington named head coach of Men's and Women's Track and Field

MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway University is proud to announce the hiring of Hunter Wethington as the new head coach of the men's and women's track and field programs.

A decorated student-athlete and rising coaching talent, Wethington brings with him a strong foundation of leadership, competitive experience and a passion for developing student-athletes on and off the track.

Wethington most recently worked on the staff at Union Commonwealth University, where he was responsible for coaching athletes in the hurdles, distance, sprints, jumps, and multi-events.

Before that, he served as a student assistant coach at his Alma mater, Lindsey Wilson College, where he began his coaching career while completing his undergraduate studies.

During his time as a student-athlete at Lindsey Wilson, Wethington was a vital contributor to the program's success. He was part of the Mid-South Conference Championship-winning men's track and field team in 2020 and had team-best times in the decathlon, 400 meter hurdles and pole vault that season.

He was also recognized as an Academic All-American five times for his achievements in the classroom. His dedication to excellence in both athletics and academics reflects the values he now brings to his coaching philosophy.

Wethington holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Lindsey Wilson College and a Master of Business Administration from Union Commonwealth University.

"I'm feel incredibly honored to be selected for this position," Hunter said, "I truly believe there's no better place in the state than Midway. From the moment I began this process I knew Midway University was special. I am extremely excited to begin this journey."

"We look forward to having Coach Wethington join our staff," said Interim Athletic Director Dr. Heath Morgan. "As a former student-athlete he understands what it takes for our program to succeed and for our students to succeed on and off the field of play."

As Midway looks to build on recent successes and continue growing its presence in the NAIA, the new head coach is poised to be a transformative figure for the program.

Any prospective students interested in learning more about the track & field program are asked to reach out to Coach Wethington at hunter.wethington@midway.edu. Interested student-athletes can also fill out the recruiting questionnaire which can be found here.
