SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Midway men's track and field team continued to re-write its record book at the Steemer Indoor Showcase on Saturday.
A week after
breaking his own record in the weight throw,
Cole Sexton set a new program high mark in the shot put. Sexton had a top toss of 14.53 meters in a seventh-place finish.
Sexton topped the previous record of 13.63, set by Chase Baker at the River States Conference Indoor Championships in 2023.
Also reaching the top of the record book was
Elie Mugisha, who placed ninth in the 400-meter dash in 51.79 seconds. Mugisha came in just .02 seconds faster than the previous record, set by
Zac Cox earlier this season at the Centre First Chance Meet.
The Eagles also placed in the top-eight in three other events.
The 4x4000 relay team of
Ben Jones,
Abdul Salaah,
Tyler Withers and
Austin Ratliff were sixth in 3:34.06;
Josiah Kocis was seventh in the 5,000-meter run in 15:08.63 and
Brayden Carson finished eighth in high jump at a top height of 1.83 meters.
Midway is off next weekend before traveling to Marietta, Ohio for the RSC Indoor Championships on Feb. 14-15.
