Jones, Sexton break indoor records at Bellarmine Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Two program records fell and Midway earned seven top-10 finishes against a very good field at the PNC Bellarmine Indoor Men's Track and Field Classic on Friday afternoon.

Record-setters for the Eagles were Ben Jones in the 60-meter hurdles and Cole Sexton in weight throw.

Jones set a new mark with a final time of 8.84 seconds. He came in fifth overall, with three of the racers who finished ahead of him coming from NCAA Division-I programs.

In weight throw, Sexton placed 10th with a distance of 14.42 meters, narrowly breaking his own previous program record of 14.37, set at the Centre First Chance Indoor Meet in December

This was one of two 10th-place finishes for Sexton, who also threw a 13.34 in shot put.

Midway's top placing came in the 3,000-meter run, where Josiah Kocis finished third with a final time of 8:40.65.

Elsewhere, Brayden Carson was fifth in high jump (1.90), Austin Ratliff was sixth in pole vault (3.65) and Corey Banks was seventh in the 60 hurdles (9.47). Team scores were not recorded.

Midway is back on the road Saturday, traveling to Danville, Ky. for the Centre Indoor Showcase, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
