DANVILLE, Ky. - Three members of the Midway men's indoor track and field team opened a new season with victories at the Centre College First Chance indoor meet on Saturday.
Team scores were not recorded at the event.
The standout on the men's side was distance runner
Carson Milner, who ran a meet-record 4:24.04 to win the one-mile race. Milner beat the previous record of 4:24.48, set by Marig Engelbrecht of Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) last season.
It was also a personal best time for Milner in the event and the second-best one-mile indoor time in Midway history, behind only the 4:22.98 run by
Jacob Kocis at the
Cedarville (Ohio) Invitational last season.
On the field side,
Cole Sexton broke his own program record in the weight throw, earning a win with a top throw of 14.37 meters. It was one of two top-five finishes from Sexton, who also placed fifth in shot put with a toss of 13.46.
Midway's other win came in the paralympic shot put, where
Kaidhyn Stockdale threw 10.41 meters.
Elsewhere,
Abdul Salaah and
Zac Cox combined to earn three third-place finishes.
Salaah ran the 60-meter dash in 6.98 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.53. Cox broke his own record in the 400, running a 51.81.
The Eagles won't compete again for five weeks, when they travel to Huntington, W.V. for the Marshall Alumni Classic, hosted by NCAA Division-I Marshall University on Jan. 11.
