MIDWAY, Ky. - Three members of the Midway women's basketball team earned all-conference recognition from the River States Conference Wednesday, with freshman
A'Lyrica Hughes nabbing a spot on the First Team.
She was joined on the All-RSC squad by Second-Team guard
Jermyra Christian and Third-Team forward
Jacie Chesser.
Hughes proved to be one of the league's most well-rounded players. She was second on the team with 13.0 points and 3.0 assists per-game while leading Midway with an average of 5.9 rebounds.
But it was her defense where she shined most. Hughes had a league-best 89 steals while her 3.3 swipes per-game were 14th most in the NAIA. She helped Midway force 20.7 turnovers per-game, the second best total in the conference.
Christian got her first all-league honor after averaging a team-high 13.4 points and 3.2 assists. She proved a defensive menace on the perimeter as well, making 71 steals.
Chesser also earned RSC recognition for the first time after contribution 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds as one of Midway's top bench players.
The Eagles finished the regular season with a 10-6 mark in conference play and earned the third seed out of the East for the River States Tournament. The open the playoffs later today on the road against Brescia, the No. 2 team out of the West.
