DANVILLE, Ky. - Midway broke four program records and
equaled its best-ever finish at the Mid-South Conference Women's Swimming Championships over the weekend, finishing in fourth place.
The Eagles concluded the three-day event with 284 points, coming in between Lindsey Wilson (619) and Shawnee State (257) on the scoresheet. The University of the Cumberlands won with 933, well ahead of second-place Indiana Wesleyan, which scored 638.
Midway's top finish came in the 800-yard freestyle relay, where the team of
Katie Heath,
Josie Briner,
Sammy Friel and
Kaelynn Martin placed third in 8:16.23.Â
Three other relays saw program records fall. Friel, Martin, Briner and
Amber Klose swam a 1:41.07 in the 200 free while Martin, Friel, Briner and
Madison Richey swam the 400 free in 3:42.69. Both teams finished fourth.
In a fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley, Martin swam the 50 backstroke leg in 28.01 seconds, the best mark in Midway history.
That was one of three program backstroke records broken by Martin over the weekend. The freshman placed fifth in the 100 in 59.67 and 10th in the 200 in 2:11.93.
In the 400 medley relay, Martin, Friel, Briner and Heath were fifth in 4:10.70.
Individually, Briner placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:12.87) and eighth in the 200 free (1:59.95), while Friel was seventh in the 100 fly (259.72) and eighth in the 200 fly (2:16.72
