ELKHART, Ind. -Â For the second year in a row, Midway's
Josie Briner reached the B finals of the 200-yard butterfly race at the NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships, equaling her previous finish of 13th in the event Saturday.
A year after becoming
the first Eagle to ever reach a national final in the 200 fly, Briner narrowly broke her own program record in Saturday's preliminary round. She finished in 2:11.95, which was .04 seconds faster than her previous record, set at the 2024 National Championships.
In the finals, Briner finished in 2:12.12, putting her in fifth in the B heat and 13th overall in the final standings, which secured the Eagles four points as a team.
That was one of three events the sophomore took part in during the four-day event. On Friday, she placed 28th in 59.52 seconds in the 100 butterfly and 36th in 2:04.48 in the 200 freestyle.
This concludes the 2024-25 women's swimming season for Midway, which has had at least one national qualifier in each of the last three seasons.
