MIDWAY, Ky. - Midway sophomore
Manuel Mirabal took advantage of extended playing time last week and it paid off with a River States Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week award.
The sophomore from Maturin, Venezuela dropped just three games between singles and doubles, helping the Eagles win three matches in three days.
He and
Daniel Pinzon earned a 6-0, No. 3 doubles win over Shawnee State's Matt Justice and Aidan Gray in the River States Conference opener on Wednesday.
Then, in singles, he defeated Kentucky Wesleyan's Caleb Stovall 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 position Thursday before blanking Indiana Southeast's DJ Hall 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 on Friday.
This is the first Player of the Week award for Mirabal. He is the second Eagle to win the honor this season, following
German Collado's win
back on March 10.
Midway, which is 5-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, is set to host Asbury at 2 p.m. tomorrow before a River States showdown with NAIA No. 20-ranked Oakland City (Ind.) in Midway at 2:45 p.m. Friday.
