Utlak wins second national title for Midway western

TYRON, N.C. - For the second year in a row, Midway's Alana Utlak earned a national title at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Asssociation National Championships.

Utlak repeated as national champion in level-two horsemanship on the third and final day of competition Sunday. This helped the Eagles jump up the scoreboard, ultimately finishing in sixth place.

She headlined a dominant effort in the event for the Eagles, as teammate Tate Gill was right behind her as the level-two reserve champion.

The Eagles also got a reserve championship on Saturday, with Kayla Lawson earning the designation in team ranch riding. She was one of three top-three finishes Saturday, with Emily Sue Watts placing third in team beginner horsemanship.

Others earning top-five finishes were Hannah Mullins in rookie horsemanship (fourth), Stacey Geissler in level-one team horsemanship (fifth). Elsewhere, Ameila Lee and Sofia Getty took sixth in team reining and individual horsemanship respectively.
