Men's golf team places third at competitive Eagle Open

WALESKA, Ga. - Midway men's golf's River States Conference title defense got off to a strong start with a third-place finish at the Reinhardt Eagles Opener.

The two-day, three-round tournament concluded on Tuesday with Midway finishing with a 31-over par score of 883.

Reinhardt, the No. 20-team in the NAIA, ran away with first place, shooting 10-under par at 842. SCAD Atlanta took second, 11 strokes ahead of Midway.

Finishing in a three-way tie for seventh individually was Tristan Mitchell, who shot and even-par 71 in the opening round and ultimately finished four-over at 217.

Mitchell recorded seven birdies over three rounds and even got an eagle on the par-five 10th hole in round two.

Two shots behind Mitchell in 11th was freshman Gabe Cole, who concluded his first college tournament with superb, two-under par score of 69 on Tuesday.

Reinhardt's Zane May (66) and Pride Dyer (67), the tournament's top-two individual finishers, were the only players to shoot better than Cole in round three.

Gage Gregory (+10, 223) also secured a top-20 showing for the Eagles, finishing in a five-way tie for 13th.

Eli Stamper (+15, 228) and Kobe Ingram (+20, 233) completed the scoring, tying for 21st and 32nd respectively.

The Eagles are off until Sept. 8-9, when they travel to Plymouth, Ind. for the Pretty Lake Invitational.
