Midway trio hits national standard & Milner wins again at Centre Indoor Showcase

DANVILLE, Ky. -- After adjusting their schedule due to the impending Winter Storm, Midway's trip to the Centre Indoor Showcase proved to be a successful one.

On the women's side, the Eagles had a trio of pole vaulters who hit national standards in Emerson VanScoy, Makayla Brooks, and Maddi Reed. Then, on the men's side, Carson Milner continued his terrific season with another victory.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

It was just about seven weeks ago when Reed opened the indoor season by hitting the NAIA 'B' Standard at the Marshall Opener. At the Centre Indoor Showcase on Friday, she repeated the feat and was joined by a pair of teammates who also hit the qualifying mark.

VanScoy and Brooks will be joining Reed at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships following their performance on Friday. The trio each cleared 3.55 meters on their first try and finished 1-2-3 in the final standings.

Joining them in the pole vault was Cate Coppola, who finished in fourth place after clearing 3.25 meters.

On the track side of the meet, Stevie McSorley turned in a solid effort in the 1-mile run, claiming a fifth-place finish with a final time of 5:46.67.

McSorley continued her strong performance in the 1000-meter run where her and Ariah Egleston each finished inside the top five. McSorley placed second with a time of 3:27.83, while Egleston recorded a time of 3:29.90 in fifth place.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

On the men's side, Milner once again let the way for the Blue and Gold. Milner, the reigning RSC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, earned another victory on Friday in the 1-mile run after besting second place by three seconds with a final time of 4:27.60.

Milner then capped off a terrific showing by placing third in the 1000-meter run. The junior from Walton, Ky. crossed the finish line with a final time of 2:43.76.

UP NEXT: Midway is set to return to action on Saturday, January 31, when they compete in Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Classic.
