Esports roundup: Call of Duty team places fourth at out-of-state event

ATHENS, W. Va. - Midway's Call of Duty team had a productive weekend trip to Athens, W. Va., competing in the Passion Series LAN event, hosted by Concord University.

The Eagles started fast with an undefeated performance in pool play before eventually placing fourth overall.

Highlights included coming back from two-games down to earn a 3-2, best-of-five series win over Marshall, the No. 22 team in the country, and a 3-2 win over Tennessee Chattanooga, which is ranked No. 16 nationally.

Midway also earned 3-0 wins over West Virginia and Marshall's secondary ACAD team.

This came after a 3-0 loss to Cumberland (Tenn.) last Tuesday, which put the Eagles in fifth place in the Southeast Appalachian Division.

Elsewhere on the Esports calendar, the Counter Strike 2 team lost 2-0 to Kettering (Mich.) last Wednesday, while Owen Capria was 1-4 in Street Fighter 6 1 vs. competition on Thursday.
