LEXINGTON, Ky. -Â Midway's men's track and field team opened the outdoor season at the Pioneer Invitational Saturday, placing in the top five is six events.
Team scores were not recorded.
Cole Sexton opened his year with second-place throws of 46.55 in the hammer throw and 13.92 in shot put. Sexton also placed fourth in discus with a mark of 40.34.
Josiah Kocis,
a national qualifier in the 10,000-meter run a season ago, placed third in a pair of races, running a 4:12.78 in the 1,500 and a 2:06.63 in the 800.
Others in the top eight in field events were
Brayden Carson in high jump (fourth, 1.88),
Kyan Lydian in javelin (seventh, 36.73) and shot put (eighth, 12.56),
Jeremiah Aiken in javelin (eighth, 31.96) and
Latavian Hamilton in long jump (eighth, 5.88).
On the track side, Anderson was fifth in the 400 (52.52),
Adam Higgs was seventh in the 800 (2:14.24) and Jonathan Kocis was eighth in the 5,000 (16:42.93)
Midway will be back at it next Saturday, traveling to Louisville for the Bellarmine Jim Vargo Invitational.
