Eagles place fifth, earn four All-RSC honors at Outdoor Championships

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Three athletes combined for four all-conference spots as the Midway men finished fifth at the River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which concluded on Saturday.

At the two-day event, the Eagles finished with 52.5 points. Rio Grande won easily with 280.5 while Indiana Kokomo was second with 162.

Leading the charge was distance standout Carson Milner, who took second in two races Saturday.

Milner, an indoor national qualifier and All-American at the NAIA Marathon in December, continued his excellent junior season by running a 3:55.17 in the 1,500-meter run and a 15:11.99 in the 5,000.

Also earning a runner-up finish on Saturday was Cole Sexton, who threw 44.30 meters in the discus.

The first All-RSC distinction came on Friday in high jump, where Brayden Carson placed third with a top leap of 1.85.

Sexton and Josiah Kocis had additional fifth-place finishes over the weekend. Sexton tossed 49.30 in hammer throw Friday with Kocis running a 32:20.75 in the 10,000-meter run Saturday.

The pair scored in other events as well, Sexton finishing seventh in shot put (14.32), Kocis eighth in the 5,000 (15:32.75).

Midway placed two in the triple jump. Ben Jones was sixth with a jump of 12.54 meters, while Latavian Hamilton was seventh at 12.22.

Harry Van Why IV placed eighth with a 6.26 at long jump.

In relays, Midway finished seventh in three different races.

In the 4x800, Adam Higgs, Noah Hampton, Connor Byrd and Kocis ran an 8:49.81.

In the 4x100, Javari Burnett, Ben Jones, Latavian Hamilton and Tyler Withers finished in 45.26 seconds.

In the final race of the day, Withers, Jones, Gregory Anderson and Elie Mugisha ran a 3:39.81.

Jeremiah Aiken was Midway's representative on the RSC Champions of Character team.

Head coach Jay Walls says he hopes to get his team into the Lee Last Chance Meet, which will be held at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. next Saturday.
