COLUMBIA, Ky. - Playing highly ranked opponent seemed to bring the best out of the Midway women's golf team, which set multiple program records at the Lindsey Wilson Spring Invitational over the weekend.
The Eagles set a new program record for fewest strokes in a single round and three-round tournament, while
Anna New had the best individual round in program history in a second-place finish at the four-team tournament.
Midway shot a 56-over par 920 for the tournament, which was highlighted by a 12-over score of 300 during Saturday's third round. The Eagles finished behind No. 18 Lindsey Wilson (891) but ahead of No. 12 Taylor (944) in the standings.
The 920 was six shots better than the previous record
set at the UNOH Fall Invitational in 2024Â while Saturday's round was four shots better than the previous high mark at the same tournament.
Leading the charge throughout was
Kasey Cameron, who finished sixth with a 12-over, 228. The reigning RSC Golfer of the Year was at her best in round two, where she shot a 73 (+1) and recorded three-consecutive birdies on holes 3-5.
Cameron tied her career-best score, the previous 228 also coming at the 2024 UNOH Fall Invitational. It is the second-highest three-round individual score in program history.
In 10th and 11th were
Savannah Salchli and
Anna Simpson, who shot a 232 (+16) and 235 (+19) respectively. Salchli was a model of consistency, shooting a 77 in the first two rounds and a 78 in the third.
While tied for fourth on the team and 13th overall, it was New who put together the best-ever round by an Eagle women's golfer with her one-under par 71 on Saturday.
New registered just one bogey all day while notching birdies on holes 10 (par-three) and 12 (par-four). Her score is one shot better than the previous record that was shared by Kathryn Lawler, Hannah Scroggins and
Maryssa Phillips.
Kelsay Collins tied New overall with a 247 (+22) over three rounds. Golfing as an individual,
Haley Rice placed 19th with a 247 (+31).
Midway now has just two more matches before the River States Conference Tournament, the next being the annual Midway Eagle Invitational on March 30-31.
For the first time, the event will be played at the Woodford Club in Versailles, with whom the program
struck a partnership deal last summer.
