Tigers double up Eagles in mid-week matchup

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following an eight-game road swing, the Midway baseball team returned to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium on Tuesday to host Campbellsville (Ky.) in a non-conference mid-week matchup.

In a game that featured a combined 24 runs on 29 hits, the Tigers used a seven run sixth inning and a five run eighth inning to double up the Eagles and come away with the 16-8 victory.

It was a beautiful day for baseball at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium as temperatures creeped into the 70's without a cloud in the sky, but a consistent 20-25 mph wind blew out of left field and played a key role in the plethora of runs that crossed the plate.

In all, seven home runs were hit on Tuesday afternoon as the visitors clubbed three of the seven, while Midway hit the other four to bring their total to 12 thus far this season.

The Eagles – who fall to 7-15 overall following the loss – built a 7-4 lead after scoring one in the first, three in the third and two in the fourth, while they added another single run in the fifth.

Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) hit an RBI single in the first inning to cut Campbellsville's lead in half before he and Max Hill (Stockholm, Sweden) each provided a big fly in the third.

Hill opened the inning with a solo shot over the left field fence, while Nichols stepped to the plate three batters later with a runner at first. Batting from the left side, Nichols went the opposite way for a two-run home run over the left field fence pushing Midway's lead to 4-2.

The home runs continued for the Eagles in the fourth and fifth innings. This time it was Marquise Glenn who clubbed the first home run of his Midway career. The Atlanta, Ga. native took a 2-2 pitch for a ride sending over the left field for another two-run home run.

Then in the fifth, Parker Walker joined in on the fun. The native of Minesing, Ontario, Walker opened the inning with a solo home run over the fence in right-center field to give his team a 7-4 advantage entering the sixth.

Midway added a run in the seventh on an RBI double from Glenn, but Campbellsville used a seven run sixth and a five run eighth to slip away with the 16-8 victory.

Spencer Lowe (Lexington, Ky.) was handed the loss allowing seven runs, while Domingo Garcia (Cayey, P.R.) got the start tossing four innings allowing four runs. Blake Samons (Danville, Ky.) and John Ivey (Independence, Ky.) each had scoreless outings, while Garrett Dolinich (Dickson, Tenn.) and Andrew Stefaniak (Lexington, Ky.) allowed three and two runs, respectively.

Noah Marion (Louisville, Ky.) and Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) each carded three hit performances, while five others collected two hits apiece in the loss.

Midway returns to River States Conference play this weekend when they host IU Kokomo (Ind.) for a three-game series on Friday & Saturday.
