Midway Women's Basketball rolls Wright State-Lake for big win

CELINA, Ohio -- Following a tough loss to Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) on Saturday, the Midway University women's basketball team returned to action on Sunday when they traveled up north to Celina, Ohio where they battled Wright State-Lake (Ohio).

The Eagles sprinted out to a 20-9 lead after the opening 10 minutes, but they did most of their damage in the final three quarters. Midway outscored the Lakers 98-39 in the final 30 minutes which included holding a 39-13 edge in the second stanza en route to a 118-47 victory.

The visitors got a balanced attack with six scoring in double figures and a total of 16 players etching their name in the scoring column, but leading the way was Kodi Kinder. The freshman from Detroit, Mich. scored a team-high 15 points off the bench in 10 minutes of action. She also shot 5-of-8 from the floor overall and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Joining Kinder in double figures were Madison Jones (Walton, Ky.) and Kelsee Kinder (Detroit, Mich.) who chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Destiny Chaidez (Dry Ridge, Ky.) and Leah Shelley (Ballard County, Ky.) added 12 points apiece off the bench, while Olivia Morabito (Louisville, Ky.) also posted 10 points behind three triples.

The Eagles took the 11 point cushion that they had built in the first quarter and added on to it in the second. Over the opening five minutes they had pushed their lead out to 30 at 43-13 before Kodi Kinder swished home a triple in the final 30 seconds to make it a 59-21 lead at half.

The Eagles continued to add to their lead in the second half before ending the game on a flurry in the final seven minutes. Kodi Kinder scored six straight points igniting a 24-3 run over the final seven minutes and change en route to a 118-47 victory.

Midway torched the nets shooting 58.3 percent (42-72) from the floor, while hitting 13-of24 from three which was good enough for 54.2 percent. Their stifling defense held the Lakers to 26.2 percent shooting overall (16-61) and 13 percent from downtown (3-23).
