NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- It was announced on Monday, March 5, that Midway baseball pitcher, Brandon Aoki, was named the River States Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance the week February 26-March 4.

The weekly award handed out by conference officials is the first of the season. The weekly honor is the first of the season and first of the career for the Camarillo, California native.

The junior left-hander tossed a gem last week as Midway opened RSC play with a bang in a 10-0 run-rule victory over Asbury (Ky.).

In the win, Aoki tossed six shutout innings surrendering just one hit on an infield single. Aoki also fanned six and walked two as Asbury hit just .063 on the day.

After last week's performance, Aoki lowered his earned run average to 4.00, while earning his first win in four tries. He has fanned a team-best 16 batters in a total of 18 innings pitched so far this season.

Midway went on to complete the three-game sweep of Asbury as they started conference play with a perfect 3-0 record. They also improved their overall record to 7-10.
