MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- For the second time this season, Carlos Cespedes, was named the River States Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance on the diamond the week of April 2-8, the conference office announced on Monday, April 9.
The weekly honor is his second of the season, while it also is the second of his career. He won the same award earlier this season on Monday, April 12.
The senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was sensational last week as the Midway University baseball team picked up a 6-0 victory over Brescia (Ky.).
Against the Bearcats, he allowed just four hits in the complete game shutout. Cespedes tossed all nine innings and finished with 10 strikeouts, while surrendering just one walk in the win. He allowed the Bearcats to hit just .133 in the game.
Following last week's results, Cespedes is now 3-3 on the season, while sporting a 1.87 earned run average. He is second on the team with 44 strikeouts, while opponents are hitting .186 against the senior.
Cespedes ranks in the top six in seven statistical categories in the River States. He is sixth in strikeouts per game (9.14); fifth in earned run average (1.87), hits allowed per game (6.23), and runs allowed (16); fourth in opponent batting average (1.86); and tied for fourth in both hits allowed (30) and earned runs allowed (9).

Cespedes is expected to return to the mound this weekend when the Eagles travel to Point Park (Pa.) for a three game series. First, the Eagles will take on No. 20 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Tuesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. ET in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
