CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- The Midway University baseball team will take on Point Park (Pa.) in the opening round of the River States Conference Baseball Tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The six-team, double elimination tournament begins on Thursday with three games and is slated to run through Sunday, May 6.
The Eagles earned the No. 5 seed after finishing the regular season with a 24-22 record overall and a 15-11 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Pioneers – who lost a tiebreaker to IU Southeast for the No. 1 seed – is 41-7 overall and 23-4 in conference play.
The two teams met earlier this season on April 13-14 for a three-game series up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Eagles won the first two games of the series by scores of 8-3 and 8-7 in 10 innings, while Point Park won the series finale 13-4.
Luther Bramblett's team also is the defending River States Conference Tournament Champion after winning the title last year in their first year of baseball.
The first matchup of the day sees the No. 1 seed, Indiana University Southeast take on the No. 6 seed, Brescia (Ky.). First pitch for the Grenadiers (37-10, 23-4 RSC) and the Bearcats (12-33, 10-17 RSC) is set for 11 a.m. ET.
By way of winning the regular season crown, IU Southeast has earned one of the two automatic berths to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. The winner of the conference tournament will earn the other automatic bid.
The final first round game on Thursday features the No. 3 seed Rio Grande (Ohio) taking on Indiana University Kokomo who earned the No. 4 seed. The RedStorm (26-24, 17-10 RSC) and the Cougars (30-19-1, 16-11 RSC) will get underway at 7 p.m. ET.
The tournament continues with three more games on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, beginning at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET. Championship day is set for Sunday with the first game at 11 a.m. ET and the 'if-necessary' game slated for 3 p.m. ET.
Live video will be available for all games in the tournament. Fans can purchase a single-game pass for $7.95 per game or pay $19.99 for all games of the tournament. The RSC all-access pass is available for $49.99 which features access to all RSC Championship events.
