Eagles doomed by offensive woes in straight sets loss to Cumberland

LEBANON, Tenn. -- The Midway University men's volleyball team returned to action on Wednesday night when they traveled to Cumberland (Tenn.) for a Mid-South Conference matchup in Lebanon, Tennessee.

It was a night that the Eagles would like to forget unfortunately as the Phoenix (2-14, 2-4 MSC) would cruise to the 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-10, 25-14).

Midway's offense could never get going as they finished the night with a -.144 hitting clip with just 11 kills in 48 swings. The Phoenix, meanwhile, posted a .532 attacking clip with 32 kills and just six miscues in 62 swings.

Gavin-James Andaya (Kapolei, Hawaii) and Nate Martin (Pickerington, Ohio) led the offensive attack with four kills apiece. Conner Libs (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) also chipped in three kills.

Andaya also had six assists, while Ryan Meyers (St. Louis, Mo.) collected four assists. Kyle West (Dry Ridge, Ky.) led the defense with three digs.

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Thursday night when they host Bluefield College (Va.) in another Mid-South Conference matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
