Early runs propel Lindsey Wilson to 10-3 win over Midway Baseball

VERSAILLES, Ky. -- Following a River States Conference sweep of Ohio Christian this past weekend, the Midway University baseball team was back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they hosted Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at Chandler Field.

Earlier this season on February 26, the Eagles swept a doubleheader from the Blue Raiders winning 4-1 and 4-3, but that wasn't the case on Tuesday.

Lindsey Wilson scored three runs in each of the first two innings before adding a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth en route to the 10-3 victory. The Eagles scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Blue Raiders.

Midway's offensive chances were limited as they tallied just six hits compared to a season-high 14 hits for the Blue Raiders.

Midway got on the board in the third inning courtesy of a solo home run from Koy Lindsey. The senior from Campbellsville, Ky. looked at the first pitch, but crushed the next pitch hitting a no-doubter over the left field fence for his third home run of the season.

The Eagles continued to chip away with a run on two hits in the fourth. Following two quick outs, Noah Marion (Louisville, Ky.) doubled to deep right-center and then Zach Lampreia (Toronto, Canada) singled thru the hole at second scoring Marion from second.

The Eagles scored their final run of the game in the fifth. Tyson Orr (Nashville, Tenn.) singled before Koy Lindsey sent a single to second. On Lindsey's single, the second baseman bobbled the ball allowing Orr to move to third.

The next batter, Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) hit a sacrifice fly to deep left-center that scored Orr from second. The run cut the deficit to 7-3, but the Tigers scored three runs in the next half inning as they came away with the 10-3 victory.

Cameron McAnally (Owenton, Ky.) got the start and was dealt with the loss allowing six runs – four earned – with four strikeouts in his two innings.

Jonathan Hook (Tamarac, Fla.), Mitchell Kreidenweis (Independence, Ky.) and Garrett Dolinich (Dickson, Tenn.) each allowed one earned run, while Andy Melgoza (Oxnard, Ky.), Jacob Cole (Mount Eden, Ky.) and Zach Lampreia each tossed one scoreless inning in the loss.

Koy Lindsey and Tyson Orr led the offensive attack for the Eagles with two hits each, while Lindsey collected an RBI. Noah Marion and Zach Lampreia accounted for Midway's other two hits.

The Eagles are back in action on Thursday and Friday when they travel to the 'Buckeye State' for a three-game series with Rio Grande (Ohio). The two will play a single-nine inning game on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET followed by a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon eastern time.
