BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- With the regular season in the books and postseason play beginning tomorrow, the Mid-South Conference announced its 2019 men's volleyball All-MSC Teams and individual honors on Thursday night at the annual banquet at the National Corvette Museum.
Leading the list of honors for the Midway men's volleyball team was Victor Pietro. Pietro was tabbed the MSC Freshman of the Year, while he also earned First Team All-Conference honors.
The freshman tallied big numbers throughout the season as he becomes the first player to earn All-Conference honors in the short history of the Midway men's volleyball program.
Although just a freshman, the Gloria de Dourados, Brazil native, has made an immediate impact in his first year of volleyball collegiately. He's led the Eagles offensively and has ranked as one of the top offensive weapons in the conference.
He has appeared in all but one match and has compiled 322 kills averaging 5.46 kills per set to go with a .245 hitting percentage. He has also carded a team-high 31 service aces, while recording 109 digs and 22 total blocks – both of which are second on the team.
Pietro has tallied double-digit digs in all 16 of his matches this season, while he has 20 or more kills in six matches and 30 or more kills in three of those matches.
Pietro is currently leading the conference in kills per set, while ranking second in total kills. He is also leading the nation in kills per set and ranks fifth in total kills and eighth in the NAIA in services aces per set.
Pietro will lead the Eagles into the Mid-South Conference Tournament which begins on Friday, April 5, at Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In their first round matchup, the Eagles will take on Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at 9:30 a.m. ET.
Earlier this season on March 9, the Eagles swept the Barons 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-17). A loss would end Midway's season, but a win would see them advance to the quarterfinals later in the day on Friday. With a win, Midway would then take on St. Andrews (N.C.) at 2:30 p.m. ET.
