Midway Men's Basketball to travel to IU East on Wednesday for RSC Tournament

MIDWAY, Ky. -- With the regular season behind them, the Midway University men's basketball team has now turned their attention to the River States Conference Tournament which gets underway on Wednesday at campus sites across the league.

Midway – who is the No. 3 seed out of the West Division – will be traveling to Richmond, Ind. to battle the No. 2 seed from the East Division, the Red Wolves of Indiana University East. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET at Lingle Court which is located at 2325 Chester Blvd. in Richmond.

The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup between the Eagles and the Red Wolves will get the winner of Indiana University Southeast and Ohio Christian University on Saturday, Feb. 29, at a location to be determined.

ABOUT THE EAGLES

Midway is making their first-ever appearance in the RSC Tournament following a 15-14 record overall and a 7-9 mark in RSC play. The 15 wins topped the previous program record for wins in a season which was set by the 2018-19 squad who went 12-16 overall.

The Eagles locked up the No. 3 seed from the West Division following a 98-82 win over Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on Saturday (Feb. 22). The win tied ALC for third, but Midway won the tiebreaker after going 1-1 against Asbury (Ky.) whereas ALC went 0-2.

In that Senior Day victory, DJ Lujan (Phoenix, Ariz.) paced the Eagles with 25 points. Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) added 22 points, Kwon Evans (Louisville, Ky.) chipped in 17 points & 15 rebounds and Luke Thorburg (St. Louis, Mo.) added 13 points & 10 boards, while Kaleb Britt (Bowling Green, Ky.) narrowly missed a triple double with 11 points, 10 assists & seven boards.

Evans has led the way for the Eagles thus far this season averaging 16.8 points & 7.9 rebounds per game. Miller adds 11.4 PPG off the bench, while Britt chips in 10.4 PPG & 3.1 APG. Krizell Mitchell (Detroit, Mich.) and Lujan are also posting 8.6 points per game.

SCOUTING THE RED WOLVES

IU East has been the gold standard of the RSC the last few years following tournament titles in 2015, 2017 & 2018. The 2019-20 version of the Red Wolves earned the No. 2 seed from the East Division following a 20-10 mark overall and a 14-2 record in RSC play.

The Red Wolves – who are currently 'receiving votes' in the NAIA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll – enter the tournament winners of their last three including a 91-67 win over Carlow (Pa.) in their last outing on Saturday (Feb. 22).

In the win over the Celtics, Garrett Silcott, led the way scoring 30 points, while dishing out eight assists. Bishop Smith added 21 points and six assists, while the duo combined to go 20-of-33 from the floor and 10-of-17 from three. Jehu Lafeuillee, meanwhile, carded a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards in the win.

Smith leads the Red Wolves as he ranks second in the RSC with 21.2 points per game. He's also averaging 4.1 APG, while shooting 43.8 percent from three. Silcott adds 14.8 PPG, 4.1 APG and shoots 37.3 percent from three. Lafeullee records 10.1 PPG and a team-high 7.3 RPG.
