Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- For the third straight game, the Midway men's basketball team found themselves holding a lead with under two minutes remaining, but unfortunately their bad luck continued after suffering another close loss to Crowley's Ridge (Ark.).
On Saturday, the Eagles held a 69-66 lead with 1:37 remaining in regulation, but they wouldn't score again as Crowley's Ridge hit a pair of field goals as well as a free throw to come away with a 71-69 win.
The Eagles held their largest lead of the game early in the second half when they led by five on two separate occasions following a bucket from Ridge Hall (New Pekin, Ind.) and a triple from Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) a couple of minutes later.
Unfortunately for the home team, they were unable to hold that lead as Crowley's Ridge – who improves to 7-14 on the season following the win – battled back and a back and forth battle ensued over the final eight minutes of regulation.
The final 8:20 of regulation saw five ties and seven lead changes with neither team leading by more than three. A pair of free throws from Kwon Evans (Louisville, Ky.) and Miller gifted the Eagles a 69-66 lead with 1:37 remaining.
Miller's free throws would be the final points the home team would score as they went 0-for-2 with two turnovers in their final four offensive possessions. The Pioneers, meanwhile, scored the final five points of regulation to steal a 71-69 victory in Marshall Gymnasium.
The Eagles were led by Donnie Miller who finished with 21 points and five assists. Kwon Evans posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Krizell Mitchell (Detroit, Mich.) carded 10 points and seven boards.
Midway – who falls to 3-7 following the loss – is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they host West Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium.
