MIDWAY, Ky. -- After closing their regular season last week with a matchup against IU Kokomo (Ind.), the Midway men's basketball team is set to open postseason play on Wednesday in the River States Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
The RSC Tournament got underway with the first round on Monday. It was determined there that Midway would host Rio Grande (Ohio) in the quarterfinals. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in Marshall Gymnasium on Wednesday (Feb. 24).
The RedStorm clinched their spot in the quarterfinals after handing IU Southeast (Ind.) an 80-68 defeat in the first round on Monday. Rio Grande was led by Andrew Shull who scored 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting, while Cam Schreiter chipped in 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the RSC Administrative Council approved a new format for the RSC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships this year. Pairings were determined using a double-blind draw in a pairings show that was held on Wednesday, February 17.
Wednesday's matchup will be Midway's first against the RedStorm this season. The two were originally scheduled to play in early January, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the River States to shuffle the basketball schedule and move to a divisional-only schedule.
Rio Grande – who is currently 14-8 on the season – is led by Miki Tadic who is averaging 17.4 points per game. Shiloah Blevins adds 16.7 points per game and pulls down a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game, while Andrew Shull chips in 15.9 points per contest.
Midway – who wrapped up the regular season holding a 7-10 mark overall – is led by the duo of Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) and Kwon Evans (Louisville, Ky.) who are each averaging double figures. Miller scores 20.5 PPG, while Evans adds 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.
The winner of the Midway-Rio Grande matchup will take on the winner of the Point Park (Pa.)-Asbury (Ky.) on Saturday (Feb. 27) in the River States Conference Tournament Semifinals.
Live stats and live video will be provided for Wednesday's matchup. Midway's attendance policy can be found here.
