Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After returning from their trip to Alaska over the weekend, the Midway men's basketball team officially opened their season on Tuesday night with a trip to the St. Stephens Family Life Center in Louisville, Ky. to battle Simmons (Ky.).

Behind a spectacular performance from Donnie Miller, the Eagles opened their season on a strong note with an 80-57 victory over the Falcons.

With the win, Joe Krupinski's squad moves to 1-0 on the season, while the Falcons dip to 1-1 following the loss.

After dropping 28 points in Midway's final exhibition against the Seawolves, Miller came out firing on Tuesday night. The junior from Newport, Ky. tossed in a game-high 30 points hitting 10-of-15 from the floor. He also hit three triples and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Miller had eight points in the first half when Nick Keeton stepped up for Midway. The sophomore from Paintsville, Ky. scored the opening five points as he finished with nine in the opening 20 minutes.

After going back-and-forth with the Falcons in the early going, the Eagles picked up the intensity on the defensive end. Midway held Simmons without a field goal for over eight minutes as they opened a 26-11 lead following a 15-1 run. The visitors would eventually take a 38-22 lead into the locker room.

Miller got hot to open the second half scoring the opening nine points for the Eagles as they held a 47-39 lead with 14:14 remaining. Dae'Shawn White (Newport, Ky.) hit a couple of long balls as Midway continued to hold a comfortable lead.

The Eagles held a 57-47 lead midway through the second half, but over the final 10:02 of regulation, they outscored the Falcons 23-10 as they cruised to the 80-57 victory.

Joining Miller in double figures was the duo of White and Keeton who each chipped in 12 points. White hit 4-of-6 from behind the arc, while Keeton hit 4-of-8 overall and 2-of-3 from downtown. Tobias Thompson, a Louisville, Ky. native, finished with nine points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The Eagles are set to return to action tonight when they travel to Evansville, Indiana to battle the University of Southern Indiana in an exhibition.
