Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a string of road games to open the 2022-23 campaign, the Midway men's basketball team hosted Boyce (Ky.) in Marshall Gymnasium on Tuesday (Nov. 8) in their home opener.

The Eagles trailed by two with 8:38 remaining in the opening half, but they closed the opening stanza on a 32-8 run as they would lead by as many as 31 en route to the 90-76 victory.

With the win, Midway improves to 2-0 on the young season, while the Bulldogs slip to 1-2 following the loss.

Midway got off to a bit of a slow start, but thanks to the play of Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) and Nick Keeton (Paintsville, Ky.) they stayed close with the Bulldogs. The two combined to score 16 of Midway's 18 points in the opening 10 minutes as the game was tied at 18.

Boyce would take a 23-21 lead on a dunk by Brody Madeira with 8:38 left in the opening frame, but the Eagles finally got their offense going. The Eagles would close the half on a 32-8 run as they would take a 53-31 lead into the locker room.

TJ O'Connor (Miami, Fla.) drained a pair of treys and Keeton added a pair of layups to spark a quick 10-0 run as Midway held a 31-23 lead. Donovan Morris (Lexington, Ky.) then caught fire from long distance hitting three threes and scoring 11 points in a three-minute span.

In all, Midway scored 25 unanswered points as Boyce was held without a point for well over six minutes. For the first half, the Eagles shot 51.4 percent from the floor and hit 8-of-16 from behind the arc, while Boyce shot just 37.9 percent over the opening 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs tried to cut into the deficit, but Midway effectively put the game away following a 15-2 run that was capped by a pair of triples by Creshaun Brown (Indianapolis, Ind.). The Eagles led by as many as 31 en route to the 90-76 victory.

In total, Midway had five players reach double figures in the win. Donnie Miller led the way with 14 points, while Nick Keeton just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

TJ O'Conner added 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench, while Creshaun Brown also carded 12 points going a perfect 4-of-4 from the three-point line. Donovan Morris, meanwhile, hit 3-of-5 from long distance to finish with 11 points in the win.

The Eagles are set to return to action on Thursday (Nov. 10) when they make the short trip to Georgetown (Ky.). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
