Box Score

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Midway men's basketball team snapped their two-game losing skid on Saturday (Dec. 3) when they traveled to Terre Haute, Ind. to battle River States Conference foe St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) in a West Division matchup.

In a game that saw nine ties and five lead changes, the Eagles would take a 41-35 lead into the locker room only to see the Pomeroys take the lead with about nine minutes left. Midway, however, regained the lead and held on for the 71-66 victory.

Following the road win, Joe Krupinski's team put an end to their two-game skid as they improve to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Pomeroy's, meanwhile, drop to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in league play with the loss.

The opening minutes of the game was a back-and-forth battle that saw the Eagles hold a slim one-point lead approaching the midway point of the first half. Nick Keeton (Paintsville, Ky.) then hit back-to-back buckets pushing the lead to five.

With the end of the half nearing the Eagles got a pair of three-pointers from TJ O'Connor (Miami, Fla.) and Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) as the visitors would take a 41-35 lead at halftime.

The Eagles shot a scorching 58.6 percent in the opening 20 minutes, while they were also very efficient in their outside attempts hitting 5-of-8. St. Mary-of-the-Woods was also very efficient in the first half shooting 53.8 percent from the floor.

After trading buckets early in the second half, the Pomeroys took a pair of one-point leads with the ladder coming at the 9:30 mark on a free throw by JJ Evans. The Eagles regained the lead, but the Pomeroys tied the game at 58 with 5:39 left.

Miller came up clutch down the stretch scoring eight points in the final 5:26, while Tobias Thompson (Louisville, Ky.) hit back-to-back layups as Midway held on for the 71-66 victory.

The Eagles had four players score in double figures led by Donnie Miller who poured in a game-high 24 points. The junior guard hit 8-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-6 from downtown. Will VanHook (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Nick Keeton each scored 13 and grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively. Thompson, meanwhile, carded 10 points in the win.

Midway will now have a few days off to wrap things up in the classroom as they're set to return to action on Saturday (Dec. 10) when they host IU East (Ind.) inside Marshall Gymnasium.
