Campbellsville wins mid-week matchup over Midway Baseball

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After opening the 2022 campaign with seven consecutive road games, the Midway baseball team played their home opener on Tuesday (Feb. 15) when they hosted Campbellsville (Ky.) at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.

With the game tied at two runs apiece following three innings, the Tigers took control as they put up a 10 spot in the fourth inning to take a commanding lead. Campbellsville later added five in the eighth to claim the 17-5 victory in eight innings.

Following the loss, the Eagles drop to 0-8 overall, while Campbellsville picks up their first victory of the season improving to 1-4 on the young season.

Midway struck first scoring two runs without getting a hit in the first inning. Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.), Max Hill (Stockholm, Sweden) and Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) each reached on a walk to load the bases with nobody out.

Hotchkiss scored on a wild pitch, while Hill scored when Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) grounded out to second giving the home team the early 2-0 lead.

The 2-0 lead was short lived after the Tigers scored two in the third to tie the game before breaking the game open in the fourth frame. The top of the fourth saw the Tigers score 10 runs on eight hits including a pair of three-run home runs by Josiah Clark.

The Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the sixth with Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.) ripped an RBI single scoring Nichols who doubled earlier in the inning.

Campbellsville scored five more in the top of the eight, but Midway answered with two in the bottom half. Davis opened the inning with a walk bringing Josh Halterman (Lexington, Ky.) to the dish who clubbed a two-run home run – his first of the season.

After giving up the two-run home run, the Tigers got the next three outs to complete the 17-5 run-rule victory in eighth innings.

Dylan Burton (Somerset, Ky.) was dealt the loss allowing eight runs in his 0.2 innings. John Davis (Princeton, Ky.) allowed two runs in his 1.1 innings, while Jesse Komoroski (Memphis, Tenn.) surrendered five runs – two earned – in his 0.1 innings.

Cameron Head (Salem, Ky.) got the start and pitched two scoreless innings, while Jacob Jackson (Monticello, Ky.), Spencer Lowe (Lexington, Ky.), Jose Aviles (Hatillo, Puerto Rico) and Ryan Lee Hayes (Lebanon, Ky.) each tossed scoreless outings in the loss.

Luther Bramblett's squad is scheduled to return to action on Saturday (Feb. 19) when they hosted No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan University for a doubleheader beginning at noon ET at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.
