Box Score SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- Following a tough win over IU Kokomo (Ind.) on Senior Day, the Midway women's basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night when they traveled to St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) for a River States Conference matchup.
Midway forced the Pomeroys into 31 turnovers and held the home team to just 33.9 percent shooting as they would lead by as many as 34 before cruising to the 84-50 victory.
With the win, Chris Minner's squad extends their win streak to six as they improve to 21-6 overall and 13-2 in RSC play. The Eagles continue to runaway with the RSC West Division as they hold a three-game lead over Oakland City (Ind.).
The Pomeroys – who fell to 11-12 overall and 5-11 in league play with the loss – tied the game at nine for the fourth time in the opening five minutes, but from that point on Midway took control and quickly blew the game open.
Allyson Callahan (Morehead, Ky.) hit a layup and followed that with her second three-pointer, while Kindall Talley (Frankfort, Ky.) added a layup of her own. Dezeree White (Houston, Texas) capped an 11-2 run with four straight points as Midway took a 20-11 lead after 10 minutes.
The Eagles continued to add to their lead in the second stanza where they outscored the Pomeroys 23-13 and held the home team to just 31.6 percent for the quarter. The opening three minutes saw Midway extend their lead to 16 on the heels of an 11-4 run.
A jumper from Mi'lan Miller (Houston, Texas) and a trey ball from Aleigha Mucker (Hardinsburg, Ky.) gave Midway their largest lead of the first half at 22 as they would take a 43-24 lead into the locker room.
The Eagles put together runs of 6-0 and 9-0 in the third period as they extended their lead to 30 for the first time. The Blue and Gold shot 47.6 percent from the floor in the third period and forced the Pomeroys into nine turnovers.
Despite going just 3-of-6 from the floor in the fourth quarter, the Eagles continued to pad their lead before cruising to the win. Midway went 13-of-16 from the charity stripe in the fourth period alone as they led by as many as 34 en route to claiming the 84-50 victory.
Fourteen different Eagles etched their name in the scoring column in the win with three of those reaching double figures. Mi'lan Miller finished with 13 points, four steals and four assists, while Allyson Callahan added 13 points. Dezeree White returned to the lineup and carded 12 points, seven steals, six rebounds and four assists in the win.
Midway forced the Pomeroys into 31 turnovers which led to a 30-12 edge in points off turnovers. The Eagles also recorded 22 assists on their 30 made field goals.
The Eagles are back in action on Thursday (Feb. 17) when they host IU Southeast (Ind.) to wrap up the home portion of their schedule in the regular season. In their first meeting on Nov. 23, Midway left New Albany, Ind. with an 84-75 victory.
