Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a road trip to Cumberland (Tenn.) just two days prior, the Midway men's volleyball team returned to Marshall Gymnasium on Friday (Feb. 18) when they hosted Milligan (Tenn.) for a non-conference matchup.
The Eagles posted one of their better offensive performances of the season as they hit over .300 for the match, while holding the Buffaloes to a negative hitting clip en route to claiming the 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-11, 25-21).
With the win, Jonea Rima's club puts an end to their three-match skid as they improve to 6-5 overall, while Milligan slips to 8-9 overall following the loss.
The win saw the Eagles card their third best hitting performance of the season with a .318 attacking percentage. Midway finished with 35 kills in their 66 swings, while they also served a season-high 14 aces in the sweep.
Six of those aces came from Colton Marsh including three in the opening stanza. With his team trailing 3-1, the sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio sparked a 7-0 run with his three aces as Midway took an 8-3 advantage. The Eagles then doubled up the Buffaloes with an 18-9 lead before taking the 1-0 advantage with a 25-14 win in the opening stanza.
The second set saw Midway sprint to a 13-4 edge following back-to-back kills from Jonathan McGuyer (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) and another kill by Eric Rosado (San German, Puerto Rico). The Eagles later closed the set on a 9-4 run taking a 2-0 lead after the 25-11 win.
Midway cruised to a 19-13 lead in the final frame following back-to-back service aces by Franzso Severre (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands). The Buffaloes cut the deficit to 23-21, but back-to-back kills by Severre and McGuyer sealed the sweep with the 25-21 win in the third.
Joey Boujaoude (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Victor Bazzo (Gloria de Dourados, Brazil) led the offensive attack with seven kills each, while they also carded a .778 and a .667 hitting percentage, respectively. Franzso Severre and Eric Rosado, meanwhile, recorded six and five kills, respectively in the win.
Daniel Cogo (Padua, Italy) ran the offense and dished out 27 assists to go with a team-high six digs. Jonathan McGuyer, Colton Marsh and Severre each finished with four digs in a winning effort.
The Eagles are now scheduled to begin a five-match road swing on Tuesday (Feb. 22) when they travel to Thomas More (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
