Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. -- After having to cancel their mid-week contest, the Midway baseball team returned to River States Conference play on Friday (April 15) when they opened their three-game series with Point Park (Pa.) at Wild Things Park.
Point Park – who is currently in the 'receiving votes' portion of the top-25 poll – scored one in the first, four in the fifth and another in the seventh to claim the 6-0 shutout victory.
Following the loss, Luther Bramblett's squad drops to 14-21 overall and 12-4 in league play, while the Pioneers improve to 25-9 overall and 13-3 in conference play with the win.
The early innings were filled with missed opportunities for the Blue and Gold as they left eight runners on base through the first four innings. They left them loaded in the second before leaving two more stranded in the third and fourth frames.
Despite the missed chances, the Eagles stayed in the game thanks to the strong early pitching of Blake Kincaid (Columbia, Tenn.). He allowed one run through four innings before running into trouble in the fifth.
Kincaid was ultimately dealt the loss allowing five runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. He also fanned eight, while allowing four free passes. Cameron Head (Salem, Ky.) followed Kincaid and got the final out in the fifth.
John Davis (Princeton, Ky.) allowed one run in his one inning of work, while Dylan Burton (Somerset, Ky.) and Ryan Lee Hayes (Lebanon, Ky.) each worked one scoreless inning.
Offensively, the Eagles recorded six hits with three of those coming off the bat of Max Hill (Stockholm, Sweden). Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.), Josh Halterman (Lexington, Ky.) and Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.), meanwhile, each carded one hit in the loss.
The two teams are scheduled to wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. ET at Wild Things Park.
