Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After opening their season 24 hours earlier, the Midway men's volleyball team returned to the hardwood on Friday (Jan. 27) when they hosted Culver-Stockton (Mo.) for a non-conference battle inside Marshall Gymnasium.

The Eagles picked up their second win in as many days as they sent the Wildcats home with a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-20, 25-18).

With the win, Jonea Rima's club improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Culver-Stockton drops to 0-2 in their campaign.

Midway finished the contest with 34 kills in 68 swings to post a .309 hitting clip. Their defense, meanwhile, held the visitors to just 21 kills and a .069 attacking mark.

The Wildcats trailed by just one, 10-9, in the opening set, but the Eagles answered with an 8-1 run that saw them push their lead to 18-10. The two teams traded points for the rest of the set until a service ace by Jonathan McGuyer (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) clinched the 25-15 win.

Victor Bazzo (Gloria de Dourados, Brazil) put down three early kills in the second set to help give his squad an 8-4 lead. A few moments later, Eric Rosado (San German, P.R.) and McGuyer put down back-to-back kills forcing Culver-Stockton to burn a timeout trailing 17-10.

The Wildcats cut the deficit to four on a couple of occasions, but a pair of kills by Jai'Den Chinnis (Upland, Calif.) helped give Midway a 2-0 lead after winning the second set 25-20.

Culver-Stockton stayed within striking distance in the third frame until Bazzo and Joey Boujaoude (Cincinnati, Ohio) carded back-to-back kills sparking a 4-0 rally that saw the home team take a 15-8 lead. Boujaoude would later add two more kills as Midway sealed the 3-0 sweep with the 25-18 win in the third set.

Bazzo and Boujaoude led the offensive attack with 10 kills apiece, while Chinnis added seven kills from the middle. Chinnis and Boujaoude also recorded a .600 and a .500 hitting clip.

Daniel Cogo (Padua, Italy) dished out 30 assists, while he and Colton Marsh (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied the match-high with eight digs apiece.

The Eagles will enjoy their Saturday off before traveling to Milligan (Tenn.) on Sunday for a 5 p.m. ET first serve.
