MILLIGAN, Tenn. -- After opening the season with a pair of home matches, the Midway men's volleyball team hit the road for the first time in the 2023 campaign on Sunday (Jan. 29) when they battled Milligan (Tenn.) inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Midway's offense was clicking on all cylinders as they posted a season-high .387 hitting clip en route to the 3-0 sweep (25-6, 25-13, 25-16).

With the win, Jonea Rima's club continues their perfect start to the season moving to 3-0, while the Buffaloes fall to 1-3 following the loss.

The Eagles' offense finished with 33 kills in their 62 swings to record a .387 attacking mark. The Blue and Gold also served 15 aces, while they held the home team to a -.048 hitting percentage.

A pair of service aces by Jonathan McGuyer (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) allowed Midway to jump to a 5-0 lead in the first set. Joey Boujaoude (Cincinnati, Ohio) later put down three kills to spark an 11-1 run to close the set that saw Midway win handily 25-6.

The second stanza saw a bit of a back-and-forth until the Eagles seized complete control of the set. Midway led 14-9, but went on a 10-1 run to take a commanding 24-10 lead as they took a 2-0 lead after winning the second frame 25-13.

Milligan took their first lead of the entire match after scoring the first point in the third set, but the Eagles responded with a 10-1 run to build a 10-2 lead. After seeing the home team cut the deficit to as little as five, the Eagles clinched the sweep after winning the third set 25-16.

Boujaoude led the offensive attack with nine kills and a .467 hitting mark, while Jai'Den Chinnis (Upland, Calif.) finished with eight kills and a .545 attacking percentage.

Daniel Cogo (Padua, Italy) had a solid outing with 25 assists, six digs, and three service aces, while McGuyer led the defensive effort with seven digs. McGuyer also served a team-high four aces in the win.

Midway will have a bit of a break before returning to Marshall Gymnasium on Friday (Feb. 3) when they host Lourdes (Ohio) at 7 p.m. ET.
