Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Following a break for the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Midway men's basketball team was in action on Thursday when they opened their trip to the 'Steel City' with a River States Conference matchup against Point Park (Pa.).
The Pioneers scored the first four points of the contest and never looked back as Midway struggled to get anything going offensively suffering a 78-57 loss.
Following the loss, the Eagles fall to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in RSC play, while the Pioneers improve to 12-4 overall and 4-2 in league play with the win.
Midway finished the contest shooting just 35.8 percent from the floor and 25 percent from behind the arc. Point Park – who won the rebounding battle 45-33 – shot 50.8 percent overall and 33.3 percent from downtown.
Point Park sprinted to an early 4-0 lead before stretching that lead to 16-2 less than seven minutes in. Trailing 24-9 with 9:40 left in the half, the Eagles got within three on the heels of a 12-0 run.
Ridge Hall (New Pekin, Ind.) kickstarted the run with a layup before Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) caught fire scoring seven straight points. Dae'Shawn White (Newport, Ky.) then capped the rally with a triple getting Midway within three with 5:21 left in the half.
The Pioneers responded and stretched the lead back to 10 at halftime after closing the opening frame on a 14-7 run.
Point Park added to their lead in the second half as Midway was unable to get within single digits over the final 20 minutes. The home team would lead by as many as 23 en route to the 78-57 victory.
Miller led the way for the Eagles with 17 points, while Nick Keeton (Paintsville, Ky.), TJ O'Connor (Miami, Fla.), and Hall each scored eight points in a losing effort.
Joe Krupinski's squad will wrap up their trip to Pittsburgh on Saturday (Jan. 7) when they take on Carlow (Pa.) at 3 p.m. ET.
