Men's Basketball unable to slow 'receiving votes' Cumberlands

Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Midway men's basketball team was back in action on Tuesday night when they faced a familiar foe, the Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots – a team they played just 10 days ago in the Campbellsville Classic.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the result didn't change from the first time as the Patriots, who are in the 'receiving votes' portion of the NAIA Top 25 Poll, raced to a 14-point halftime lead en route to the 93-71 victory.

The Patriots, who improved to 7-0 on the season with the win, shot 51.6 percent from the floor and turned it over just three times, while they forced the Eagles into seven turnovers and just a 40.7 percent shooting clip.

Midway, who slips to 1-4 on the season following the loss, got off to a solid start and went back and forth with the home squad in the early going. A triple by Will VanHook and a layup from Nick Keeton gave the Eagles a 12-8 lead less than six minutes into the game.

Midway's lead grew to six (16-10) just a couple of minutes later after Keeton hit another layup before Robbie Henry got a layup of his own. The Patriots, however, quickly responded with a 12-0 run to take a 22-16 lead.

The Patriots soon pushed the lead to double figures before cruising to the 93-71 victory.

Four Eagles reached double figures in the contest led by Keeton who finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Jalen Cincore added 12 points, while the duo of David Woodard and Tobias Thompson each finished with 10 points off the bench.

The Eagles are set to return to action in just two days when they take on Tennessee Tech in their second exhibition against an NCAA Division I opponent. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in the Eblen Center in Cookeville.
