Box Score 2 MIDWAY, Ky. -- On Friday afternoon, the Midway baseball team welcomed Siena Heights (Mich.) to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium for a doubleheader opening a four-game weekend series.
After dropping the first game by a score of 4-0, the Eagles gained a measure of revenge and claimed a 3-0 win in the nightcap.
With the split, the Eagles have accumulated a 2-7 record while the Saints open their campaign 1-1. The two squads will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon ET.
Game 1: Siena Heights 4, Midway 0
In the opener, the visiting Saints took the lead in the top fourth with a pair of runs. Siena Heights then added two insurance tallies in the top of the sixth to make the final score 4-0.
Dylan Burton (Somerset, Ky.) took the loss after tossing four innings. He surrendered five hits, allowed two runs, and struck out four while walking two. Tyler Pyles (Louisville, Ky.), meanwhile, gave up two runs in three innings of work, surrendered three hits and dealt six strikeouts.
The Eagles picked up their only hit in game one when Barrett McGill (Bloomfield, Ky.) singled in the bottom of the fifth.
Game 2: Midway 3, Siena Heights 0
In the nightcap, starting pitcher Owen Clark (Knoxville, Tenn.) got off to a very impressive beginning to his afternoon. After surrendering a leadoff base hit, Clark struck out the next six batters he faced.
The Blue and Gold opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, the Eagles drew three consecutive walks before Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) grounded into a fielder's choice driving in Noah Phillips (Greenville, Ky.).
The Eagles then added a pair of insurance tallies in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on the corne, Eli Glasscock (Danville, Ky.) and Grant Stone (Lexington, Ky.) did a double steal as Stone crossed the plate. Following a walk to Phillips and a Siena Heights pitching change, reigning RSC Baseball Player of the Week Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.) singled to right field enabling Glasscock to score.
Clark received the win after dealing five innings of three-hit ball with seven strikeouts against only one walk. Skyler Lucas (Elizabethtown, Ky.) surrendered two hits in one inning of relief work. Jesse Komoroski (Memphis, Tenn.) earned the save after hurling a perfect top of the seventh inning.
On the offensive side, the Eagles picked up hits from Hotchkiss, Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.) and Shane Taylor (Morehead, Ky).
