Midway Baseball sweeps doubleheader, wins series with Siena Heights

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After splitting a Friday afternoon doubleheader, the Midway baseball team returned to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium for a second twinbill against Siena Heights (Mich.).

After earning a come from behind 4-3 victory in the opener, the Midway offense caught fire in the second game, winning 13-4 to sweep the doubleheader and complete the series victory, winning 3-of-4 over the Saints.

With the wins, Midway improves to 4-7 for the campaign, while Siena Heights falls to 1-3.

Game 1: Midway 4, Siena Heights 3

Siena Heights scored one in the first and two in the fifth to grab a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Midway got within one scoring two runs on a hit. With runners at first and second, Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) reached on a fielder's choice as Eli Glasscock (Danville, Ky.) – who walked to lead off the inning – scored on an error by the first baseman.

Josh Halterman (Lexington, Ky.) then hit an RBI single through the right side scoring Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.) who walked earlier in the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Shane Taylor (Morehead, Ky.) opened the inning with a double before scoring on a Glasscock infield single. Following singles from Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.) and Hotchkiss to load the bases, Halterman earned a walk driving in Glasscock giving the Eagles a 4-3 lead.

Now leading 4-3, Midway turned to closer Jesse Komoroski (Memphis, Tenn.) to close the door. The right-hander did just that nailing down his second save of the season clinch the 4-3 victory.

Blake Kincaid (Columbia, Tenn.) got the start and was dealt a no decision. He pitched five innings allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits with five strikeouts. Cameron Head (Salem, Ky.), who tossed a scoreless sixth, picked up the win in his relief appearance.

Game 2: Midway 13, Siena Heights 4

The nightcap saw Midway's bats come alive plating 13 runs on 16 hits. They scored four in the first and third innings, two in the second and fifth innings before adding one final run in the sixth.

The first inning saw Josh Halterman, Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.), and Barrett McGill (Bloomfield, Ky.) record RBI singles, while Halterman clubbed his first homer of the season in the second with a two-run shot to left pushing Midway's lead to 6-0.

Noah Phillips (Greenville, Ky.) and Nichols added RBI singles as part of a four-run third, while Halterman continued his strong day in the fifth. The sophomore hit an RBI double before later scoring when Eli Glasscock drew a bases loaded walk.

The single run in the sixth came courtesy of an RBI groundout by Preston Howard (Nicholasville, Ky.) as Midway cruised to the 13-4 victory.

Skyler Lucas (Elizabethtown, Ky.) picked up the win in a scoreless relief appearance. The right-hander tossed 1.2 innings allowing three hits. Matthew Poe (Georgetown, Ky.) and Luke Richardson (Franklin, Ky.) each tossed a scoreless frame, while Grant Stone (Lexington, Ky.) allowed an unearned run in the seventh.

UP NEXT: The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a nine-inning affair at 2 p.m. ET.
