Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. -- The Midway University men's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday night when they traveled north to Kokomo, Ind. to battle IU Kokomo (Ind.) in a River States Conference matchup inside the Student Activities and Events Center.
The homestanding Cougars shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and held the Eagles under 40 percent as they would cruise to the 83-56 victory snapping Midway's four-game winning streak.
With the loss, Joe Krupinski's squad falls to 15-9 overall and 10-5 in RSC play, while the Cougars improve to 19-6 overall and 13-2 in league play following the win.
The opening moments of the game were a bit of a back-and-forth battle until the visitors took a 17-14 lead following a triple by Will VanHook (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and a layup by Nick Keeton (Paintsville, Ky.).
Midway's offense then went cold as they committed four straight turnovers before being held without a point for nearly five minutes. The scoring drought allowed the Cougars to go on a 12-0 run as they took a 26-17 lead with just over nine minutes left in the half.
A bucket by Donnie Miller (Newport, Ky.) helped stop the rally, but IU Kokomo extended their lead to 17 on the heels of a 10-0 run. In a first half that saw the Cougars shoot 53.6 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from three, they would take a 37-24 lead into the locker room.
Keeton opened the second half with a jumper to get his team within 11, but that would be as close as they got. IU Kokomo responded with a 20-2 run as they would eventually cruise to the 83-56 victory.
Donnie Miller paced the Eagles with 20 points hitting 7-of-11 from the floor. Nick Keeton, meanwhile, recorded eight points in a losing effort.
The Cougars finished the contest shooting a scorching 57.1 percent from the floor, while they hit 7-of-13 from behind the arc for 53.8 percent. IU Kokomo also won the rebounding battle, 37-23, and forced Midway into 16 turnovers which led to 27 points on the offensive end.
The Eagles are set to return to action on Saturday (Feb. 11) when they welcome St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) to town. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. ET inside Marshall Gymnasium.
