Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Midway baseball team returned to the diamond this afternoon when they welcomed Ohio Christian to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium to open their three-game River States Conference series.
The Eagles used an eight-run second inning to take an early lead before using a four-run seventh that included a walk-off three-run home run by Josh Halterman to seal the 13-3 run-rule victory in seven innings.
With the win, Luther Bramblett's squad gets back to .500 improving to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in RSC play, while the Trailblazers slip to 5-14 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Halterman's walk-off three-run homer capped a big day at the plate for the sophomore. The Lexington, Ky. native went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, seven RBIs, and two runs scored.
Three of those RBIs came in the second when he hit a bases clearing double to give Midway an eight-run cushion after two complete innings.
The eight-run second also included a two-run double by Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.), a bases loaded walk by Noah Phillips (Greenville, Ky.), and a two-run single by Shane Taylor (Morehead, Ky.).
Halterman was at it once again in the sixth when he opened the inning with a solo home run to straightaway center field.
After seeing Ohio Christian plate a run on three hits in the top of the seventh, Midway put the finishing touches on the run-rule victory after scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom half.
Phillips ripped a single to open the inning before Taylor reached on a walk. Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) then laced an RBI single through the left side scoring Phillips from second.
Halterman stepped to the dish and put the finishing touches on his career day at the plate. He clubbed his fourth homer of the season, a three-run shot to left center to clinch the 13-3 victory.
Blake Kincaid got the start for the Eagles and picked up his first win of the season. The sophomore from Columbia, Tenn. tossed five innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits to go with his six punchouts.
John Davis (Princeton, Ky.) entered the game to begin the sixth and pitched the final two innings allowing one run on four hits.
The two squads are scheduled to wrap up their series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. ET at Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.
