VERSAILLES, Ky. – The Midway men's tennis team welcomed Asbury to its temporary home at the Falling Springs Tennis Center for a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon. After claiming the doubles point, Midway won five-of-six singles matches to a earn a 6-1 victory over the four-time former River States Conference champions.
With the win, Midway improves to 4-6 for the year, while Asbury falls to 8-2.
At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Paul Wamba (Dschang, Cameroon) and Aditya Roy Chowdhury (Kolkata, India) earned a 6-4 victory. While Asbury picked up a 6-4 win at the No. 2 position, the Eagles claimed the doubles point when Lakshay Vivek (Haryana, India) and Keshav Rathi (Haryana, India) won a hard-fought 7-5 match at the No. 3 slot.
While Asbury gained its only point of the day at No. 1 singles, Julian Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) battled through a difficult first set before cruising to a 7-5, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. Wamba completed an undefeated day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 slot while Vivek accomplished the same feat with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4.
In the No. 5 position, German Collado (Alcala de Henares, Spain) claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win. Midway then closed out its first-ever win against Asbury when Daniele Trentin (Venice, Italy) won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
The Blue and Gold will return to its "home away from home" at Falling Springs Tennis Center on Thursday, March 30, when they host Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho). Opening serve against the Warriors is slated for 10 a.m. ET.
