Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Following a midweek matchup with nationally ranked Cumberlands (Ky.), the Midway baseball team began their final home River States Conference series of the season on Friday (April 14) when they welcomed Point Park (Pa.) to Tracy Farmer – Don Ball Stadium.

The opener saw the Pioneers score eight unanswered runs before coming away with a 13-4 victory, while the Eagles battled back in the nightcap and salvaged a split with a 3-2 victory.

Following the split, Luther Bramblett's squad moves to 21-17 overall and 15-5 in RSC play, while the Pioneers go to 26-10 overall and 16-4 in league play. The two squads will wrap up their series on Saturday with a nine-inning game beginning at noon ET.

Game 1: Point Park 13, Midway 4

Midway jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first frame. Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.) singled and scored when Preston Howard (Nicholasville, Ky.) reached on an error, while Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Barrett McGill (Bloomfield, Ky.).

Unfortunately for the home team, the Pioneers immediately answered with four runs on five hits in the second. Hotchkiss opened the third with a solo home run that cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Pioneers scored eight unanswered to take a 12-3 advantage.

Davis clubbed a solo home run in the eighth, but that's all Midway got as Point Park would cruise to the 13-4 victory. Blake Kincaid (Columbia, Tenn.) was handed the loss allowing nine runs – seven earned – with six strikeouts in his 5.1 innings of work on the mound.

At the plate, Hotchkiss and Davis helped lead the way with two hits apiece. They also drove in one run and scored two runs, while Cameron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) added a 3-for-4 outing.

Game 2: Midway 3, Point Park 2

After the two teams combined for 17 runs on 26 hits in the opener, the nightcap saw the two combine for five runs on 10 hits. Just like the opener, Midway struck first with singles runs in the first and fourth innings.

Grant Hotchkiss opened the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right center, while Ayden Sciandra (Jacksonville, Fla.) laced an RBI single up the middle in the fourth giving his squad a 2-0 lead.

Point Park tied the game with back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fifth, but Midway immediately answered in the bottom of fifth when Hotchkiss capped a career day at the plate.

The sophomore from Richmond, Ky. got his fourth hit of the day when he crushed his third homer of the doubleheader. He ripped his fifth home run of the season over the right field fence giving his squad a 3-2 lead.

Grant Stone (Lexington, Ky.) pitched a perfect sixth before giving way to Jesse Komoroski (Memphis, Tenn.), who allowed a leadoff walk before getting back-to-back strikeouts to help clinch the victory. Stone picked up the win improving to 3-1, while Komoroski notched his seventh save of the season.

Owen Clark (Knoxville, Ky.) got and start and pitched four scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Hotchkiss led the way going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
