Eagles win series over Point Park behind Senior Day victory

Box Score

MIDWAY, Ky. -- After splitting the doubleheader the day before, the Midway baseball team clinched their seventh River States Conference series victory of the season on Saturday when they picked up a Senior Day victory over Point Park (Pa.) in the series finale.

Midway held a commanding 10-1 lead after seven, but saw their lead trimmed to just two after the Pioneers put up a seven spot in the top of the eighth. Fortunately for the Eagles, they scored two in the bottom of the eighth and held on for the 12-8 victory to clinch the series.

With the win, Luther Bramblett's squad improves to 22-17 overall, while they move into a tie for first place in the RSC standings with a 16-5 mark.

After sitting Point Park down in order to begin the game, the Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after hitting a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the first. Eli Glasscock (Danville, Ky.) hit his first of the season with a solo shot to left center, while Camron Nichols (Owensboro, Ky.) clubbed his team-leading eighth bomb of the year with a shot to straightaway center field.

The Pioneers (26-11, 16-5 RSC) cut the deficit in half with a solo shot in the top of the third, but Midway responded with a three spot in the bottom half. Grant Hotchkiss (Richmond, Ky.) hit his fourth homer of the series with a solo shot to open the inning, while Glasscock walked and scored on an error. Ryan Davis (Paris, Ky.) scored the third run pushing the lead to 5-1.

The Eagles continued to add to their lead with three in the fourth and two in the sixth. Davis and Nichols had RBI singles in the fourth, while Nichols reached on a bases loaded walk in the sixth. Glasscock scored his third run of the ballgame on an error to cap the two run sixth.

Trailing 10-1, the Pioneers answered in a big way hitting three home runs in a seven run eighth inning that saw the lead dwindle to 10-8. Midway, however, responded with a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Nick Eastham (Morehead, Ky.) had a one-out single bringing Ayden Sciandra to the dish. The sophomore from Jacksonville, FLa. crushed his second home run of the season with a two-run shot to left center that extended Midway's lead 12-8.

Jesse Komoroski (Memphis, Tenn.), who got a strikeout to end the eighth, allowed a two-out double in the ninth, but got a flyout to clinch the 12-8 victory. The right-hander got the final four outs for his eighth save of the season.

Dylan Burton (Somerset, Ky.) moved to 5-3 on the season after picking up the win. He fanned a season-high eight batters and allowed one run on three hits in his five innings of work. John Davis (Princeton, Ky.) tossed two innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

Midway had 12 hits in the win with four players recording two hits apiece. Glascock went 2-for-3 with three walks, an RBI, and three runs, Ryan Davis went 2-for-4 with two walks, an RBI, and two runs, and Nichols went 2-for-3 with three walks, three RBIs and a run, while Eastham added two hits with a run. Sciandra, meanwhile, had two RBIs and two runs in the win.

The Eagles are set to return to action on Tuesday when they hit the road for a matchup against nationally ranked Cumberlands (Ky.).
