Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- It was announced on Monday, April 17, that for the second time this season, Grant Hotchkiss of the Midway baseball team had been named the River States Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his performance the week of April 10-16.
Not only is it the second honor of the season, but it also is the second of his career. His first weekly honor came for the week of Feb. 13-19. It also marks the third time this season that a Midway baseball player has brought home the honor.
The sophomore brings the honor home following a terrific week at the plate where he posted a .412 batting average and a 1.294 slugging percentage to help lead Midway to a 2-2 mark that included a series victory over Point Park (Pa.).
In his four games at the dish, Hotchkiss went 7-for-17 with five home runs, seven RBIs, and nine runs scored. He accounted for 16 of Midway's 28 runs in the week and had at least one hit in every game including three multi-hit outings.
In the loss to nationally ranked Cumberlands (Ky.), the Richmond, Ky. native had two hits – including a three-run home run – with two runs scored.
Then in the series victory over the Pioneers that forged a tie for first place in the RSC standings, Hotchkiss had five hits including four home runs, four RBIs and seven runs scored. In game two of the series – a 3-2 Midway win – he hit a game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. He finished with a .417 batting average and a 1.417 slugging percentage in the series.
Following his performances last week, Hotchkiss is batting .333 with 41 hits that includes six home runs, a triple and seven doubles. He has also drove in 34 and has scored 43 runs.
After going 2-2 last week the Eagles moved to 22-17 overall and 16-5 in the River States Conference.
